Why do air
ducts need cleaning?
Dust, pollen, mold spores, fibers,
hair, paper dust and more is constantly being drawn
into your HVAC system while in operation. 95% of
these particles pass through the air filter(s),
hiding in the air duct system and air handling
equipment. Over time, this build-up can reduce
airflow up to 50%. Air ducts are breeding areas for
bacteria and molds that cause many people to suffer
from allergies or respiratory stress. This can be a
source of musty, stale odors. Legionnaire's disease
which spawned in the air duct system killed 29
people. (American Lung Association)
Is This Your Air Duct System?

When
should they be cleaned?
When anyone in the home or building
has breathing problems like allergies, asthma or
emphysema; before moving into a new home or pre-owned
home; when installing a new furnace or making changes
in the air duct system and/or when dust appears on
walls, ceilings, drapes, office equipment or around
registers.
How often
should this be done?
The air duct system should be cleaned
every three to five years. For allergy sufferers,
this needs to be done annually. In office buildings
this needs to be performed more often to prevent
damaging dust from entering into computers, copiers,
typewriters, calculators and/or other office
equipment causing poor quality performance or
failure.
How are
they cleaned?
There are several methods for
cleaning air conveyance systems. Simpson Power-Vac
practices source removal. This
method is recommended by the National Air Duct
Cleaners Association (NADCA). Simpson
Power-Vac has NADCA-Certified Air Systems
Cleaning Specialists on staff. Equipment and
tools are utilized that are designed specifically for
air duct cleaning. Using giant Power-Vac
Trucks that pull 15,000 cubic feet of air
per minute, the air from the duct system is pulled
through the Power-Vac Truck, removing contaminants. A
high velocity Air Sweep is inserted
into the air ducts that actually crawls inside the
duct up to the register and when pulled back to the
furnace, it sweeps contaminants out to the Power-Vac
Truck with 175 PSI of compressed air. All air
passages and air moving equipment in the system are
cleaned.
